On New Year's Day 1962, four boys from Liverpool auditioned for Decca Records — 15 songs in an hour. Decca's verdict, delivered to their manager: 'Guitar groups are on the way out, Mr. Epstein... The Beatles have no future in show business.' They signed a local band called The Tremeloes instead (closer to London — cheaper travel). The Beatles became the best-selling act in the history of recorded music.
