RadioShack survived a century by riding waves — CB radios, PCs (the TRS-80 was once the world's best-selling computer!), phones. But it never chose an identity: was it the tinkerer's parts store? A phone kiosk? A toy shop? By the 2000s it was 7,000 tiny stores selling everything badly, renamed 'The Shack' in a cringe rebrand, its knowledgeable staff cut for cost. The maker movement — its natural rebirth — happened without it, on Amazon and Adafruit. Bankruptcy in 2015, again in 2017.
