📜 What Happened
Bikram Choudhury built the most famous yoga franchise on earth: the same 26-posture sequence, the same 40°C room, and a legally enforced monopoly over its own method. At its peak, 650+ studios and millions of students swore by the practice. But the franchise ran on the guru's ego: he sued 21 studios in 2011-12 for using 'his' sequence, and from 2013 former students began coming forward with harassment claims. In 2016 he was hit with a default judgment of more than $6.5M; in 2017 another warrant was issued in Los Angeles while he remained abroad. The same year, his yoga college filed for bankruptcy. The empire that sold 'yoga, copyrighted' collapsed when the practice's own ethics caught up with its business — the first limb of yoga is how you treat people, not the temperature of the room.
